5 Home Renovation Projects Mom Will Love

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we’ve been thinking about what would make the best gift for the special mom in your life. What better way to show your appreciation than by giving her one of the home renovation projects of her dreams? Whether you want to surprise your loving wife or give your mom an extraordinary gift, these must-have luxury updates will certainly make her extra happy this Mother’s Day and for years to come.

Bathroom Oasis Retreat

What mom wouldn’t want a bathroom that doubles as her own personal spa? Treat her to her own private sanctuary that she can retreat to after a long day. What makes up this perfect lush getaway? It’s all in the details. An elegant freestanding tub provides the perfect escape for melting the stress away. A double vanity crafted with a natural material such as marble or limestone offers an abundance of counter space and storage. High-tech amenities such as LED lighting, Bluetooth speakers, in-floor heating and dimmer switches allow her to control the ambiance and create an atmosphere of true luxury. Add in amenities like a steam room or sauna, and mom will feel like she’s been whisked away to her favorite resort.

Spacious Master Closet

Home Updates

Today, closets themselves are often a personal oasis. In addition to larger spaces with more custom built-ins and functional storage features, many of them have a lounging area or spectacular statement pieces. One of the most popular statement pieces is a multifunction island, with an abundance of drawers, cabinets or even a retractable television. Larger room-sized closets have become functional living spaces rather than simply storage, so great mirrors and quality lighting are paramount. Strategically placed shelf and floor illumination makes it easier to find the perfect ensemble and can help mom to look and feel her best every day.

All-Purpose Kitchen

Home Renovation projects

To design the perfect kitchen for the culinary mom, focus on two elements – style and function. Beautiful new cabinets meticulously hand-crafted in our custom millwork shop can maximize space and make a dull, dated kitchen come to life. The addition of a multi-purpose island is an easy way of incorporating both the latest technology and design elements. A custom island can provide the opportunity to add game-changers like an extra sink, more counter space, warming drawers, a wine refrigerator or more seating. Custom cabinets and islands are also a great way of introducing complementary stone, tile or wood accents. Updating high visibility items like refrigerators, stoves, ovens and dishwashers with all the latest technology improves functionality and aesthetics. Bringing high-end appliances in line with current trends can not only increase the value of a home but can also decrease energy costs, making a kitchen remodel both a great gift and a great investment.

Her Own Personal She-Shed

Home Renovation projects

Give mom a magnificent room all to herself. A “she-shed”, the female-friendly version of the “man-cave” is mom’s private getaway to pursue her passions. She-sheds can take many forms - a meditation room, art studio, writing space or simply a place to read and relax away from the chaos of family life. Outfit this space with creature comforts like a terrific sound system, beautiful windows and skylights, a wet bar, a custom-crafted table or desk and mom’s favorite furnishings, and we guarantee this room will be her go-to place to decompress.

The End of the Honey-Do List

If now isn’t the right time for one of these home renovation projects for mom - we can still help to make her life easier with the gift of our home management - the perfect combination of maintenance and concierge services for high-end luxury homeowners. With quarterly, monthly and weekly service options, our team can make sure that mom (and dad) can spend time enjoying their home, not taking care of it.

House-Lift

The Dibico House-Lift Program

The high-end real estate market in Greenwich is more competitive than ever, with the average home over $5 million dollars being listed for more than 300 days. Many of the homes go on and off the market anywhere from two to nine times before they sell! We created our House-Lift program to be a secret weapon for homeowners and realtors to use to sell their multi-million-dollar home. The House-Lift is essentially a top to bottom ‘face-lift,” exclusively designed for homes valued at over $5 million in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Learn about the benefits of investing in our House-Lift program and exactly what it entails.

What a House-Lift Entails

In order to achieve the full benefit of the Dibico House-Lift program, we’ve determined the baseline critical elements that are required to get a luxury home ready for market. This includes a full detailed house inspection, fresh paint applied to all interior surfaces of the home, all hardwood flooring screened and top coated, all tile surfaces and stone countertops cleaned and sealed and the inclusion of our deluxe Dibico Home Maintenance Package. Lastly, a complete interior house cleaning will be done from top to bottom in preparation to sell.

Financial Benefits of a House-Lift

The benefits of the Dibico House-Lift are extensive – from the return on investment in the sale price to the amount of time your home spends on the market, our House-Lift gives you a competitive edge.

Today’s luxury real estate market prioritizes move-in ready homes. Nothing makes a home move-in ready like a Dibico House-Lift, allowing you to maximize the value and asking price of your home. Our House-Lift program has been proven to increase the value of multi-million dollar homes by as much as 10% with the ROI being ten times the cost of the program. Increase in value isn’t the only major advantage. In a market where the average sales cycle for a high-end home was 319 days, a House-Lift is a game changer. Realtors have reported multiple offers and sales in as little as one-tenth of the time as a direct result of the Dibico House-Lift.

A Seller’s Worst Nightmare – A Negative Home Inspection

More deals fall apart due to the results of the buyer’s home inspection prior to closing than most sellers would imagine. Nothing is a sellers’ worse enemy than their unwillingness to invest in the sale of their home. Todays’ multi-million-dollar home buyer expects a turn-key experience, and it’s your responsibility as a seller to provide it. Even the best realtor is limited when selling a home that is dated and/or in need of repair. The Dibico House-Lift can protect a pending sale from negative home inspections that result in costly repairs, delays, last-minute concessions and even the loss of the sale.

During our detailed home inspection, Dibico will identify any potential defects, and offer you the opportunity to remedy them — leaving the home inspector with little, if anything, to report to your potential buyer. Of course, we can’t guarantee that all of our House-Lifts will have the same results - every home is different - location, amenities, and other factors affect the sales price and length of time on the market. What we can guarantee, is that your home will have the best possible chance of success for a faster sale at a higher price.

Home Improvement in Fairfield County

Finding the Best Home Improvement in Fairfield County

Finding the Best Home Improvement in Fairfield County

Home Improvement in Fairfield County_Dibico

Home improvement is an integral part owning a home. Budgeting for projects and deciding which item takes priority, however, can be a difficult task. But, as many homeowners have discovered, the real challenge to a successful home improvement lies in planning and executing the project to perfection.

In the age of DIY tutorials and videos, some homeowners prefer to tackle home improvement themselves. These videos often offer mixed results, however, so most still prefer to rely upon experienced contractors for their home improvement projects.

Hiring a home improvement contractor offers a confidence and convenience that is often lacking in self-completed home renovations. A service provider can be immeasurably helpful, but the success of your project depends on the contractor you choose. Fairfield County is home to several home improvement firms, so how can you find the perfect fit for your project?

To make sure you get the home you’ve been waiting for, use this article for help in finding the best home improvement in Fairfield County.

1. Verify your contractor’s legitimacy

In the state of Connecticut, all individuals and companies that perform home improvements must be licensed through the state’s Department of Consumer Protection. You can use Connecticut’s website to verify licenses and check for past legal trouble involving their work. The Connecticut Home Improvement Act also requires contractors to display their registration number on all of their advertising. This includes all ads, business cards, and vehicle advertising, so look for contractors who follow this requirement.

2. Compare contractors

Compare Contractors_DibicoWhen finding the best home improvement in Fairfield County, you’ll discover dozens of contractors who operate in the area. Like any other service, each contractor has their own methods, prices, and quality of work. To find the best fit for your project, look for service providers that have been in business for several years, have extensive experience with similar projects, and are recommended by past clients. Once you’ve narrowed your selection, meet with the contractors to get project estimates. While price is an important factor, don’t let it be your deciding factor. Your contractor’s experience, quality, and ability to deliver should always come first.

3. Do your part

The best way to make sure that you will be satisfied with the result of your home improvement is to stay actively involved. There are several legal requirements for home improvement in Fairfield County, so stay on top of your project. With every project, you should be aware of the following:

  • You must have a written, signed, and dated contract with your contractor to legally proceed with your project. There are several specific requirements for a contract to be legally valid, so make sure your contract includes them all. Your contract should be completed and signed before construction begins.
  • You may need a building permit for your project. Decide in the contract who — you or your contractor — is responsible for acquiring the necessary permits and make sure you have them before the project begins.
  • Stay in continual communication about your expectations and objectives through every stage of your home improvement. This is your home, money, and project, so work with your service provider to avoid miscommunications or other issues.

4. Create a positive experience

Create a positive experience_DibicoAs your contractor works on your home, do your best to make it a positive experience. Be easy to work with. Stay available for meetings, make decisions quickly, and do your best to accommodate your contractor’s needs. Your project will inevitably experience hiccups and delays, many of which are not your contractor’s fault. Rather than getting upset, do your best to plan for these scenarios at the beginning. Treat the crew with respect, don’t over-manage, and be courteous and reasonable. The better your relationship with your service provider, the better your results will be.

At Dibico, we offer customized home maintenance services to keep your home safe, cost-effective, and valuable. If you are interested in our services or want to renovate, build, or add an addition to your home, reach out to us at info@dibicoinc.com or by filling out the form below.

Layman’s Guide to Home Improvement in Westchester County

Layman’s Guide to Home Improvement in Westchester County

Home Improvement in Westchester County_Dibico

The thought of a home improvement project can be stressful and intimidating, even to a veteran homeowner. Budgeting, logistical planning, and finding the right contractor can quickly become overwhelming, which can tarnish the excitement of updating your home. With the right planning and research, however, you can achieve the best results for your home improvement project.

Every county has its own guidelines for home improvement contractors, including licenses and permits. To make sure you find the best and safest service provider for your project, use the tips we’ve included in this Layman’s Guide to Home Improvement in Westchester County.

1. Plan thoroughly

Every successful project starts with a detailed plan. Start with deciding which part of your home you want to improve. Next, budget. Your budget will dictate the size and scope of your project, so decide on an amount you can afford and stick to it. Depending on the size and location of your renovations, your home may not be safe to live in during construction, so be sure to have food and lodging arranged. Above all, plan for the inevitable bumps and time extensions that may arise so that you are prepared for anything.

2. Choose a dependable contractor

Choose a Dependable Contractor_DibicoYour project’s success and your satisfaction depend on the contractor you choose. Once you have your project planned, carefully research the contractors in the area. Westchester County requires all home improvement contractors to gain a license through the county, so check online to ensure your service provider has a valid, current license. You should also make sure that your contractor doesn’t have any outstanding liens or judgments, which is a sign that you may experience difficulties in your business relationship and project. To help protect you from the worst offenders, Westchester County offers a list of “renegade renovators” who should be avoided.

Once you have verified their licensing, be sure to ask about prior projects, renovation methods, and overall experience. You can also ask for estimates from each of the contractors you are considering. Price is important, but remember, your choice should depend more on experience and expertise if you want your project to be a success.

3. Know your options

Homeowners planning for home improvement in Westchester County may qualify for a local home improvement program. These programs are designed to improve energy efficiency, support first-time homeowners, and rehabilitate the community by helping fund home improvement projects. Home improvement programs available to residents of Westchester County include the following:

NYSERDA Loans

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority offers two loan options for residents who want to improve energy efficiency and renewable energy. Residents who meet low income requirements or cannot qualify for traditional funding may qualify for lower interest rates.

Hudson Valley Home Ownership and Revitalization

Homeowners who qualify for this program can receive up to $25,000 to purchase and improve a home. At least $12,750 of this amount must go to renovating or repairing the home. This includes correcting structural defects, extending the home’s useful life, or repairing basic systems that affect the homeowner’s health and safety. Applicants must meet income requirements.

Home Ownership Program

First-time homeowners may qualify for this program, which offers up to $25,000 to assist in the purchase of a house, cooperative, or condo. At least $1,000 of the awarded amount must be used to improve the housing standards. This program offers this assistance as a deferred forgivable loan with recapture provisions.

Yonkers Home Improvement Loan Program

This program offers low-interest loans to qualifying homeowners in the City of Yonkers. Participants can receive up to $25,000 for a single-unit home and up to $15,000 each for three additional units. These funds must be used to correct a housing issue that threatens the health, safety, or lives of residents.

White Plains Neighborhood Housing Rehabilitation Program

To help preserve and improve communities throughout White Plains, the city offers loans at below-market rates. These funds can be used to repair and improve homes, though priority is given to repairs that can protect and preserve lives and safety. Homeowners who apply must meet income qualifications.

4. Work with your contractor

Work with your contractor_DibicoYou may lack the skills and resources needed to complete your home improvements, but that doesn’t mean you should be hands-off during the project. Instead, work closely with your contractor to make sure he understands your vision and you understand the process. Check in for regular updates and never hesitate to ask your questions. The best home improvement contractors are those who take the time and attention to give you the home of your dreams.
